Aries Systems Sponsors OASPA’s OA Switchboard Initiative
October 20, 2020 | North Andover, Massachusetts –
Aries Systems Corporation, a leading technology workflow solutions supplier to the scholarly publishing community, is pleased to announce its sponsorship of the Open Access Scholarly Publishers Association’s (OASPA) OA Switchboard initiative. The OA Switchboard strives to enable the seamless sending and receiving of messages relating to the publication of open access research outputs for participating publishers, academic institutions and research funding organizations.
The OA Switchboard is a not-for-profit, industry-wide collaboration that aims to serve as an intermediary between the complexities of multi-lateral Open Access publication-level arrangements by functioning as a central information exchange hub. The OA Switchboard team is currently working on a pilot integration that leverages Aries’ web services API to allow funding information within Editorial Manager® (EM) to be easily communicated between publishers and other stakeholders. The web services API enables scholarly journals using EM to identify specific workflow points in which messages containing submission metadata can be exchanged with third party systems. By pairing this API with the OA Switchboard platform, Authors, funders and publishers can connect to track key funding data and streamline communications.
The Microbiology Society will be among the first to pilot the Aries API and OA Switchboard integration through one of their EM journal sites. Gaynor Redvers-Mutton, Head of Business Development and Sales at the Microbiology Society, said, “We’re excited to work with both the OASPA and Aries teams to implement the OA Switchboard, offering our valued library partners a new route to reporting on articles they’ve funded under our Publish and Read transformative deals.”
“We are thrilled to sponsor the OA Switchboard initiative,” stated, Jennifer Fleet, Managing Director at Aries Systems. “Through our donation and the use of our web services API, we are able to further support the open access community and its initiatives. The OA Switchboard and Aries API collaboration helps address the challenges around the implementation of open access policies and funding workflows. Once developed, any publisher utilizing Editorial Manager can take advantage of the Switchboard services.”
To date, Aries Systems has donated over $20,000 to OASPA in support of the OA Switchboard initiative. Jennifer Fleet also serves as a member of the OA Switchboard Advisory Group.
